22 things happy people do – part 2

As you might know, positive psychology is one of my interests. A while ago, I made myself a list of 22 things happy people do. I want to share this list with you =)

This will be the second part of the list. You can find the first part here.

Before I start, I want to say that this list is neither complete, nor will all of the items make you necessarily happier. However, I think that the living by all or some of those points, increases the likelihood of achieving sustainable happiness.

  • Don’t sweat the small stuff

Life is too short to be moody or angry about little things. Have the bigger picture in mind. Only because you hurt your food in the morning, doesn’t mean the whole day will be bad.

  • Speak well of others

I think it was a Russian who said that they either say something nice about a person, or they don’t say anything. Of course, sometimes people let off steam. And in a relationship, it is important to have an open ear and to be able to voice discontent with situations or anger about other people. Though, the general rule should be to try to understand the other person and, if you can, speak well of him/her.

  • Get absorbed into the present

Practice mindfulness. In this blog you can find different methods how to be more mindful. It is one of the biggest changes I experienced in my life. We are only burning resources, if we constantly live in the past or in the future. Really living happens in the here and now.

  • Wake up at the same time every morning

If you are able to, don’t set an alarm and see how long you sleep. Go to bed at the same time for a week or two and then observe when you normally wake up. If that is not possible, try to get enough sleep. Your body will be grateful =).

  • Avoid social comparison

So simple, but so difficult at the same time. We always compare ourselves with others. Often with our friends and family member and those who we look up to or envy. If you have to compare yourself, look at those who have less than you do and feel the gratitude for the life you are able to live. And if you are really good, stop comparing altogether. It doesn’t make sense. It is your life and even if we are similar, comparing yourself with another person is like comparing apples with bicycles.

  • Choose friends wisely

In my past, I let go of a very good friend of mine. Back then, he was even my best friend. But the relationship was toxic for me. I had to learn it the hard way. There are so many people out there who are worth being your friend. Choose them wisely.
