Positive News: Small acts of kindness

A while ago, I wrote an article about adding some optimism to your news diet. Today’s entry gives hope. It shows that even small acts of kindness and compassion can have a huge impact on peoples’ lives.

Paige Hunter is 18 years old in lives in Sunderland (UK). With an ingenious idea Paige saved at least 6 peoples’ lives. How did she do it?

Paige wrote 40 small notes and attached those notes at the Wearmouth Bridge in Sunderland. Written on those notes were statements such as “Even when things are difficult, your life matters, you are a bright light in a dark world. Hang in there!” or “Don’t give up! Not today, not tomorrow, never!”.

Her goal was to show that it is totally okay to not be okay.

One of the people who were rescued by her notes said that it is hard to live with depression and she felt so lonely and this is why she went to the bridge. She just needed someone who tells her that everything will be fine. She added that without those notes her boys wouldn’t have anyone anymore.

It is a sad story but, it gives me a lot of hope and it shows how small and random acts of kindness can make a difference. Even if you don’t feel that it is such a big deal. For someone else it means the world.

Thank you Paige Hunter! May your example be copied and lead to even more kindness among us =).
